Any update on this? The status command is likely a bug that was introduced in the last version of the firmware since it was working fine before and nothing else has changed. I would also like to switch to a local Python script, or even Perl. A start script would be nice...

Yes, of course it's possible. I'm not sure exactly why there isn't any but the fact that the website works well for most of anything probably has something to do with the fact that a separate application isn't required. I've never done it to that extent, but that should work. I think there is a wiring limit of about 1,000 feet for the sensors. I've used cat 5/6 patching to relocate my panel recently and it worked flawlessly.
