I'm trying to move the ethernet cable for my EnvisaLink 3 from connecting directly to my Bell DSLmodem to connecting to an 8 port switch as I'm about to change ISP's and the modem provided by the new ISP only has a single port. When I try to introduce the switch between the existing modem and the EVL3 the system goes offline and I am unable to access the EVL module from the web and I cannot even ping it. I have tried 2 different switches and different ports on the switches with no joy. I have also tried rebooting the EVL module from the web portal before moving the cable over to the switch with the same results. The module is set up for DHCP and is running firmware version 01.12.180. I have contacted my alarm provider that installed the system and they haven't been able to find a solution yet either.
Thanks for any help or advice .
EDIT: I should add that when I reconnect it directly to any port on the modem it comes back online.

Re: EVL3 offline after adding switch - newbie question
Many gigabit swtiches won't recognise the 10BaseT NIC that is installed on the Envisalink 3. Make sure it is a 100BaseT switch or try and Envisalink4.
Re: EVL3 offline after adding switch - newbie question
I'll mention that suggestion to the tech on Monday. In the meantime, based upon your suggestion, I tried using an old school 10Base-T hub and the EVL3 still went offline.
So far I've tried a TP-LINK TL-SF1008D (10/100 MBPS), a D-Link DES-1005E (10/100 MBPS), and a Boca Research BEN-210 (10 MBPS). I was hoping that the old 10M hub would eliminate any port negotiation or auto MDI/MDI-X crossover.
