SOLVED: DSC PIR Sensor: Chime but do not trigger Alarm

Post by ocalapete »

Hello,

I have a DSC PC5010 with a PIR sensor for monitoring motion the back porch. The functionality I want is for that sensor to chime when motion is detected but not to trigger an alarm when the PC5010 is armed.

This PIR sensor is wired and assigned to zone 2. The zone is configured for instant (03) and in the zone attributes configured for silent.

The PC5010 is connected to an EnvisaLink EVL-4 and I have signed up for EnvisAlarm.

Prior to using Eyez-On/ EnvisaLink EVL-4, I used nextalarm and there was an option within nextalarm to configure a zone to "Log Only". I had zone 2, the PIR sensor, configured on nextalarm to "Log Only".

So with this configuration ("Log Only" on nextalarm & zone 2 attribute "Silent"), even with the PC5010 armed, motion on this PIR would not cause the bell to go off and would not cause a response from the nextalarm central station.

Now, with Eyez-On/ EnvisaLink EVL-4, I do not see a similar option to set a zone to logging only/no response. Also, I've crawled through the PC5010 documentation and cannot find a PC5010 configuration that would give me the desired functionality.

So the question I have for this forum: is there a configuration setting in EnvisAlarm/Eyez-On/ EnvisaLink EVL-4 that makes a zone logging-only/no-response? Or is there some clever setting on the PC5010 that would do the same thing.

Thank you.

The old 5010s don't have zone type 26 which is what you want. So the answer is no unfortuntately.

I suppose you could create a second partition and stick this zone in that partition and never arm it. But for chime to work you would have to have the keypads set to Partition 2. You could try setting the keypad to partition 0 (global), but that might screw other things up. You would have to test.

Dear Grand Wizard.

Thanks for the tip re: Partitions. I rooted around the documentation and found this nugget in the PC5010 Installation Manual:

"5.9 Partitions/Zone Assignments
....
Global Zones are zones assigned to both partitions. A common zone will be only armed when both partitions are armed and will be disarmed when either partition is disarmed".

So for zone 2, the PIR motion sensor, I set it to partition 2 (section 206) so that is is now assigned to both partitions 1 & 2. And changed the zone definition for zone 2 from Null (00) back to Instant (03) in section 001.

I tested with the system disarmed, got the chimes from the PIR/zone 2 as expected when moving about on the back porch. Armed the system, again got the chimes from the PIR/zone 2 as expected when moving about on the back porch. I then disarmed the system and checked the keypad - there were no alarms in memory. And checked the log in the eyes-on account and not alarms as well.

So that works like a champ!

Cheers.

Did you have to make the keypad global as well?
