connect Coaxial cable directly to Envisalink 3 using adapter

Post by hellovn »

Hi All,

I don't have cat5 cable wiring to my security panel. However, i have a 4-wires cable connecting to the electrical panel that very close to the internet hub with coaxial cable. I'm planing to connect Envisalink3 and my security panel using that cable. My question is that:

"Can I just connect my coaxial cable directly to Envisalink 3 using a coaxial to rj45 adapter?" I don't want to set up my router close to my electrical panel.

Thanks,

Coaxial is a 75om unbalanced signal whereas Cat5 is 100om balanced. Coaxial cable is two wires, Cat 5 cable is 8....ethernet uses 4 of the 8. In short no i do not believe what you are trying to do will work right. Buy some cat5....tape it to the coaxial cable... go to the other end of the coaxial cable and pull it through and now you have cat5 cable !

To add to my last post....it is possible just not reliable or cost effective. And when it comes to the safety of your house and family I would not go that route.
