It seems like Nest will finally be providing an API to control the thermostats.

Are there any plans to integrate this? I think a lot of people have asked for this. It would be nice to set the thermostat to "away" mode when the alarm is armed to "away" mode as well.

Depending on alarm system i seriously doubt they would open API's to let this happen,
You can hunt around on EBay for used or new in box DSC EMS's if you have a DSC panel that will do this functionality today as long as you have the escort module as well.
Personally I think the Nest is wwwaaaayyyy over priced. Spend your money on a Honeywell WiFi for 1/2 of the price
