Bad Red Screw Terminal on EnvisaLink3?

Post by rweggert »

I've just spent several hours trying to connect my EnvisaLink3 to my Vista 20p panel. I get a good LINK and KEYB light and then lose the connection within several seconds. After fiddling around with the red screw terminal (power), I noticed that if I screw the terminal closed, I lose LINK and KEYB. However, if I leave the terminal open, and physically hold the red wire inside the terminal, my connections stay solid green - but only if I physically hold the wire. If I try to wedge the wire in the terminal or prop the wire inside the terminal, it's impossible to keep a green KEYB or LINK light. Surely the screw terminal must be bad - but how does this make any sense? Is my body acting like some kind of ground? I'm wearing tennis shoes and standing on concrete - so I'm really confused! Any electronic wizards out there who can explain what is happening? (Yes, I opened a support ticket, replaced the 4 conductor wire twice and confirmed by panel connections are solid. I also ordered a new EnvisaLink since I'm pretty confident this one is defective).

As luck would have it, it looks like the red screw terminal on the circuit board, was indeed, bad. I replaced it and the EVL3 is working fine now.
