You can create up to 30 contacts per account. A Contact is an email address or an SMS address, not a person.
By default, when you create an account the account holder is setup as a verified contact as it is assumed the account holder would like to receiver alerts (why else would they buy it?).
If for some reason you don't want to receive alerts to your account-name email address, you can safely delete this contact.
