PC1555MX with no RED and BLK on Keypad bus terminal

Post by TOMCOM »

Hi, just bought a EVL-3 for my PC1555MX panel. Everything is fine except I can't find the RED and BLK on the Keypad bus terminals. Where should I connect the red and black wire from my EVL-3. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Silly question... The EnvisaLink 3 didn't come with wires and I don't have any lying around, so I will have to go to a RadioShack, if they still have any stores open around here. My question is: What size or gauge of the wires should I buy?

By the way, my installation looks a lot like the picture and it is going to be tough to fit additional wires on the existing holes. Am I missing something here?

Security professionals use 22/4 "Quad" telephone wire. This is 22 gauge solid core wire. You can buy this anywhere; Lowes, Home Depot, Rona etc.

Unless you have a lot of keypads it shouldn't be that hard to add extra wires to the RBYG terminals.

Turns out that there was an extra cable with red, black and yellow wires already on top of the alarm box. I got the green one from an old ethernet cable that was no longer working. Fished the green cable and the whole thing works.

Well, not to sound cheap here, but I really appreciate to have saved a trip to Home Depot. Thought it would be worth it to share with you guys. Of course the green wire is not as robust as the rest.

Isn't the Cat 5e Ethernet Cable (Green) a 24 - 26 Gauge wire and Cat 6 cables use 22 to 24 gauge wire? If I were you I would pick up a 3-4 Feet piece of 22/4 Conductor at my next trip to Home Depot and replace what is there right now. BTW, you can have easily used one of the conductors from that 3-conductor cable to serve as the green (if there was excess of course).

What I have seen some installers do is to use both the Green and Green and White cable to use with the EnvisaLink, not just one. That is, they twist the ends of both Green/White-Green (or any other color pair) to use to connect the EnvisaLink 3 to the Bus. So, the would use four pairs of the Ethernet Cable to represent the Red, Black, Yellow and Green.

I have observed in a number of Installations (I'm not a professional Installer) that there are a number of the 4-conductor cable with significant slack (excess), so that you can cut a 1 or 2 foot piece off an existing conductor inside the Panel. You only need maybe 1-foot of cable to connect the EnvisaLink to the Bus.
