Getting 8-15 even more email alerts per event on my Vista128

Post by Dixit »

So finally got the alarm notifications to work by doing a rack of programming on my Vista 128BPE and help from Support. However support is not entirely sure on this issue and wanted to ask any expert here.

Im getting like sometimes 8 or more alerts for the same thing. Like if we purposely set off the alarm and restore it, I get sometimes 8, 15, even 20 some emails sent to me for the exact same event.

Support believes somewhere I enabled something called an LRR kissoff. I tried to search the entire manual, looked at practically every setting and not sure what causes this.

Previously we had a Vista 50p panel that did have a GSM cellular radio attached to it (which was not active when we bought the house). Before swapping out the board to the 128BPE, we went through every setting on the 50p and wrote it down so we could identically program it to the 128BPE. So not sure if we set something that has some LRR Kissoff that support mentioned. I cant find anything.

I thought it could be *49 Checksum Verification, but that's already 0.
*84 SWINGER SUPPRESSION was set to 06, we set it to 01.
We also thought could be 1*52 SEND CANCEL IF ALARM + OFF which is set at 1.

Here is a snippit from the recent events so you get an idea of the events I get

Any help me appreciated, this seems to be the last thing left to fix before we enable the Monitoring service with Envisalink.

Thought it could be this one as well: 1*15 CANCEL VERIFY [1]
0=disable, 1=enable alarm output pulse upon kissoff of
Cancel report. NOTE: Field 1✳52 must be enabled to send a
Cancel report to the central station.

We set that to 0, ran another test, still getting 3-8 emails. I got 3 when we armed it and 8 when we disarmed the system (didn't set off the alarm).

Not sure where this setting it to look for a kissoff. Searched all terms for kissoff in the manual and that 1*15 was really the main one I saw.

Also just want to further chime in to explain that I don't think this has to do with us copying our Vista 50p settings over to the 128BPE. Yes it had a GSM Cell radio attached to the 50p, but now that I remember it was never connected like an LRR should be (using the 6 7 8 9 terminals like keypads and EVL3). It was actually just getting power from power pins and then 2 wires connected to the siren terminals. So that to me don't seem like an LRR.

So back to still the issue which we cant seem to identify why we are getting multiples of these events.

Just want to chime in here and let folks know I believe I have fixed this and found the root cause.

Turns out there were 6 wires connected to each of the keybus terminals. I know we have 4 keypads and the EVL3. So now we have an extra wire set going somewhere. Then I remember I had this RF Receiver thing in the attic with two antennas (remember seeing this 1-2yrs ago and wondered what this is for). Turns out its an RF Receiver for keyfobs I guess previous owner had but never left any of the keyfobs for us. It was a Ademco 5881 receiver module. I unplugged it, noticed the dip switches were set to an address of exactly THREE (which is what the EVL3 is set to). So that was causing the issue with the EVL3.

Tested it again, and noticed alerts were coming much faster (like within seconds) vs 5mins late, and only getting a single one now.

This issue I believe is now closed.

Are you sure it is an Ademco 5881 receiver module? The Ademco 5881 receiver modules (5881ENH, 5881ENL, 5881ENM, and 5881ENHC) are Wireless RF Receivers and are not used with Keyfobs. Only the Ademco 5883H is Keyfob capable (Combination of the 5881+5800TM). By disconnecting the Ademco 5881 receiver module, you are essentially disabling all wireless devices that might be paired/connected to your panel.

I might be wrong here, so forgive me if this is not the case, but what I described above is my understanding. Could you confirm that the RF Receiver with the double antennas in the Attic was not installed to handle "other" Wireless devices (Wireless Window/Door Contacts, Wireless Smoke/CO detectors, Wireless Glass Break Sensors, Wireless Keypads, Wireless Motion Detectors, Temperature Sensor and Flood Detector, Wireless Sirens, etc.)

The circuit board has an SA5881-MED on it. I know we don't have to my knowledge any wireless contacts or switches. We've been in the house since 2011. Never seen a zone go dead or not available due to a battery going out on a wireless contact (if that is how they work). When we put in the new Vista 128 panel (took out the old Vista 50p) we wrote down all the settings. Didn't notice any had a wireless zone type. All were either hard wire or polling/serial loop. We have 3 zone extenders as well. So there are 32 total zones to be wired to terminals. Then there are a number of smoke detector that seem to be on the loop one. We have 49 total zones. But 10 through 16 are blank in our setting list for some reason. The original installer left those blank (we also found the original install paper work). So seems like 42 zones. About 10 are smoke and heat detectors.

I just thought it was maybe the key fob receiver module. So for now its been disconnected. I can reconnect it and set it to address 4 if needed.

Hi All,
Just wanted to add correction - The 5881 series is capable of receiving non encrypted key fobs.
Non encrypted are industry standard. Also Dixit would have noticed check in failures of wireless
devices after 12 hours if programmed properly.

Yeap we have confirmed that we don't have any wireless devices since we've had the house since 2011 and never had any sensor failures due to batteries being out. We noticed in one the rooms we found these old boxes and they were for Keyfobs (which we threw away awhile back), so that is why we were fairly confident this 5881 was being used for keyfobs.
