adding a sensor question.....

Post by BernieR »

Hello,
I have a DSC 1832 panel and an EnvisaLink 2DS in the panel wi-fied to my router. I have a powered gate on my entrance to the property that does not have a sensor in it or any wired link to panel ( i didn't want it to set off alarm if it opens )
But now I am thinking that i would like to have the panel know the status ( open or closed) and relay to the system.
Anyone have recommendations for making this work? Of course I have 110v at the gate and a plug that i could put a mini wifi extender that would reach the 2ds wifi bridge but what do i need to make it all work?

thanks for the help!

How far is it away from your keypad? Could you just not use a wireless door/window sensor? Outdoors they are good for 100m (maybe).

thanks.
i think the thing you are talking about is this:

DSC Wireless Door/Window Contact WS8945W
WS8945W

But is this a weatherproof item? It would need to go on the gate.
Also, my panel is set up as a hard wired panel so thats why i wanted it to go though the 2DS wifi bridge which is located in the panel now.
thanks

Well, you may have to get a WS4965 and stick it into a weatherproof enclosure. I have a similar arrangement in my garage. Put the WS4965 into an enclosure and run the contact out to your gate (plunger probably).

All Power series panels are hybrid, they can support hardwired and wireless sensors, that's why they are the best.
