More details on heartbeat monitoring??

Hey guys, I have went through a bunch of post here and someone did ask if they do heartbeat monitoring. But the answer was never really clear. These are the questions I have since for me this is something major.

1. The eyez-on monitoring packages do heatbeat monitoring?
2. Is this option on every package and default so it will always be on no worries?
3. If heartbeat monitoring is done, at what intervals is this ran? We talking every 30 to 60 seconds or like once a day?

Thanks in advance for any help. I have checked with 3 companies and one only checks heartbeat once a day and the other do check it every 20 to 30 seconds. So big difference there.

Envisalink modules are fully supervised with 30 second heartbeats. The deliquency window on our end is 10 minutes after which you will receive a "Network Supervision Failure". Upon resumption of normal network activitity you will receive a "Network Supervision Restore"

Well, sort of. Most IP communicators (can) issue a "heartbeat" packet to the receiver at some interval. As in all Internet communications, packets can get lost including these heartbeat packets. The receiver has to decide after how many lost packets in a row that it has lost communication with the communicator.

While two or three packets in a row may be sufficient to decide that communication has been lost, setting such a low threshold will cause thousands of nightly alarms as most Internet Service Providers will interrupt service for short periods (minutes) for maintenance, sometimes daily.

It is because of this reality that most IP monitoring companies will either disable supervision for residential customers, or back-off the threshold to something like an hour or two. I make a distintction between residential and commercial customers as commericial customers may require a ULc approved installation for insurance purposes, and these installations have to have supervision.

At Eyezon we've found that 10 minutes is a good compromise between security and utility.

Thank you, very good information. Yes I see why 10 minutes would be good now that you have explained all this.

Now as far as receiving a ulc certificate to provide to my insurance company do I just have to sign up for monitoring then you mail it out? And this will be good enough for my insurance company? Or do I need to have a professional company do the install?

I did see some people on here request a ulc certificate and I didn't see any mention of who installed there systems. I had mine installed by a professional installer but want to have it monitored by you guys.

Thanks again for helping out with these questions for fast. Great customer service so far. :)

For residiential insurance all your company wants is a certificate of monitoring by a ULc listed monitoring company. Once you have your monitoring up and running, request a certificate from the Envisalarms group. Not everyone wants one. My home insurance company has lowered its discount to a flat $20 per year. Whoopee.
