New DSC user; help with a couple things

Post by mdlinkous »

Just got my Envisalink3 installed today to my DSC PowerSeries 1832. Works fine but as a new user I am having trouble understanding a couple of things. I am a homeowner.... not an alarm installer. There is much on the programming side of things I don't understand. I know how to bypass zones, and set my alarm.

The main reason I wanted the Envisalink was to arm my system remotely after my dog sitter leaves. He doesn't have the best habit of setting my alarm back. Not a big deal for a couple of hours, but if we are gone overnight, I want to verify that he set the alarm back.

First thing I am having trouble comprehending is if I remotely arm from my smartphone using the mobile site, it is going to be arming in STAY mode since it does not detect me leaving thru a door. Is there no way I can arm my interior motion detectors? Like I said, this may be a programming thing that I am just not sure how to do. Arming in stay mode is OK, but not as good as if it detected me leaving then activated my motion detectors.

Also, using the mobile site.... I am seeing there is a delay between commands. There is occasionally a time where I want to bypass a zone then set the alarm. Am I right that I need to bypass then wait a few seconds--- then refresh--- to get the READY to ARM command?

I appreciate your help.

Hi, if you want to ARM AWAY, just select ARM AWAY on the mobile portal. This will secure all of your interior zones.

Communications with your panel are only in semi-realtime. There can be as much as 30 seconds between queuing a command and it being executed. You are correct in that you should wait for your partition to become READY before issuing your arm command. This may not be necessary as you can queue-up multiple commands, but it is probably prudent.

I don't think my system will arm without a code. On the mobile portal I see an option to enter a code and an ARM button. It does not say arm away or arm stay. Then when you scroll down it says has a choice to *9 arm and then I see a stay arm and away arm without code. I am thinking my system will not arm though if I use the without code buttons.

I am a new user with a 1864 panel and it totally arms in arm away and arm stay without a code. My WT wireless panel even has dedicated arm and away buttons. I can arm as away with no code both from both the Envisalink portal and DSC keypad on android.

If I recall there may have been an option I saw in DLS 5 software that can force a requirement for a code with away / stay arming. But I don't think it was default. Might want to check your panel options.

That's my problem. I don't know how to access my panel options. Even if I did, I would know know what I am doing. I'm just average homeowner who uses an alarm... Not an installer. I would love to get some in depth help.

ah I see, I have found DIY forums http://www.diysecurityforum.com/index.php?board=3.0 and http://www.myalarmguy.net/proguide.html has some good guides and http://www.diyalarmforum.com/board/index.php?board=10.0 also download the installers manual it is indespesible reference http://download.homesecuritystore.com/d ... nstall.pdf but be careful when changing options...

But my saving grace was buying the PCLink kit and communicator board so I could program and modify the alarm and easily see what options were set and easily track what I modify - it also error checks.

So I wonder if option [015] - 4 (quick arm enabled) or 3 (quick Exit enabled) are set or not set? On my 4 is yes and 3 is no. According to the manual if 4 is set to Off a valid user code is required to enter stay or away. I am pretty confident this is your issue.

Also check [22] -1 (require code for *1 *2 *3 - *1 is the bypass menu, I am not sure if requiring a code for that affects the stay / away or not (because those modes do automatic bypasses).

I recommend you read the manual thoroughly before you change anything...

To find out you will need to type the following on your keypad

*8 [Installer Code] 115 - this should show you a numeric sequence if the 3 colum or 4 column has that digit in it then it is set if not it is not.

Note the default installer code in 5555 - if it has changed I think you are SOL looking at options without doing a full panel reset - not for the faint of heart...

I am sure someone will jump in if I have got anything wrong here.

A COUPLE things I know:

5555 is not my installer code... I also know my installer very well, BUT his company is kinda weird. They may "Disown" me per se if they know I installed an Envisalink 3.... because I am sure they would have charge hundred of $$$ to come installer a similar module.

I just don't see why in the mobile portal they could an option to arm stay or arm away WITH A CODE... just as they have done without a code.

There has got to be a easy way to deal with this... I am sure I am not the only one having an issue like this. I may be the only "non-experienced" person on this forum :D

This has nothing to do with the Envisalink, it is just the nature of your panel. DSC allows ...

Arming with a Code
Quick Arm (*9)
Arm Stay (without a code)
Arm Away (without a code)

Have you tried pressing the "ARM AWAY" on your mobile portal to see if it works?

This is the EXACT same thing as pressing the button on your keypad with the house, without the little man inside it.

On my wireless keyfob, I can arm away just fine, but on my keypad, if I press away it prompts me to enter a code.

The arm away on the mobile portal does nothing.

I need to figure out how reprogram the away button to not require the code. Easier said than done since I don't know the installer code.

I may have no other option than to pay a service call for my installer to come and do it... Then i am sure I will get some big run around as to why I should not have installed the Envisalink on my own.

If you ask your installer to disable "Code Required" for quick-arm then he can do this through DLS and shouldn't have to come to your home. You don't need to tell him about the Envisalink.

It is in section 015 under System Options.
