Basic Installation Questions (existing keypads)

Hi. Just ordered EnvisaLink 3 for my DSC 1832. I would like to know if the 4 cables that have to be connected from EVL3 to my DSC should be connected in parallel (together) with the existing wires that are already there, which I suppose go to my two keypads.

Also, since I don't have ethernet cable there, I will use a TP-LINK nano ethernet to wifi router in client mode. I'm familiar with those, so I don't anticipate any issues there. My question is if there is a way to grab 5V power from the DSC for that ethernet to wifi adapter. Perhaps the same way power is grabbed for alarm sensors using the right resistors. In my opinion that would be nice because that way it would have backup power in case of main power going down (blackout). Since my main wifi router, modem, etc. are on UPS, I would have connectivity to the EVL3 and DSC at least for some time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, they should be wired in parallel.

I wouldn't try to leach power off the EVL board; I have no idea how much current the onboard regulators can support. 12v DC is available from the keypad and/or Aux buses however, so a 12v->5v regulator should be all you need. For things like this that need a decent amount of power I'm a fan of all-in-one switching regulators such as the Recom Power R-78E5.0-0.5 or Murata OKI-78SR-5/1.5-W36-C Just be sure you don't exceed the panel's power limit!
