I really like this system, but the UI is not intuitive because there are clickable areas that give no visual clue that you can click on them.

For example, the black bar says "system" and "manage device." One is clickable, and one is not, but they are both white text on a black bar. Usually you make clickable things look like buttons, or at least a distinct color typeface. Better yet, move "manage device" into the that box instead of the title bar.

It took me about 15 minutes of trying every conceivable way to find out how to turn on zone alerts before happening to click on white text in a title bar.

I agree. I found the UI to be confusing as well.
