Master code question?

I have a dsc powerseries 1555 MX panel for our security system. When we bought the house we were never provided the master code used to setup our system & arm/disarm it using keypad panels. Our keypads are DSC powerseries 5508z. I've tried in vein to arm and only managed to set off our system. Without a master code we have basically ignored the system since moving into the house 1.5yrs ago. Today I found the envisalink 3 and plan to install it and finally use our security system.
MY question is this. When I get the envisalink module and install it will I need any master codes or will it just superseed all of that? I dont care to use the keypads at all. Using my phone is fine but I just want to be aware of any issues I will have before I get the envisalink3 and install it.
Thanks for your help.

Well, you will need your MASTER code and INSTALLER code to do any DIY installation. On DSC panels the master code will only allow you to add other users. The installers code is the code you need.
If you have tried 5555,1555, or 9999 as the code to get into installers (*8), then you will probably have to reset the panel. Assuming that the previous owner/installer wasn't a dink you can get your panel panel by doing a factory reset. Your programming will be lost be that is easliy redone.
Try those codes and if they don't work, download your installers manual and start from there.

Thanks for your help!
So If I try to just hook up the envisalink3 without messing with the keypads & resetting anything, what will happen? Will it just not work?
I will try 5555,1555, or 9999 but I think I tried that before without luck. I'll have to do a reset I think. How do I do a reset? The manual I have does not go into this?
Thanks

Well, it will just work but without a user code or master code, how are you going to disarm the system?

That's the thing we have never armed the system because we did not have any of the codes to program it, so we have never armed or disarmed it. I found the manual now here: cms.dsc.com/download2.php?t=1&id=13598
But the code programing is poorly laid out and thus very confusing. Last time I tried to do this all I ended up doing was setting off the alarm for a few minutes, but was somehow able to stop it.
If the system has never been programed or armed, lets say its all just default and I install the envisalink3 will I just be able to arm and disarm through the web portal? I'll give this another try today now that I have the manual for programing but I still think I'm missing something.
From what I gather. I enter *8 5555 (installer code) then 40 to program master code. Then I type in master code I want to use. If that does not sound right let me know. Then I can use the master code to arm when I leave the house or can arm with stay if I'm in the house and disarm when I'm staying and don't want it on. This manual is not user friendly and I believe its because installers usually do this when you have monitoring setup, so its probably purposefully made confusing/not clear.

DSC panels come with three manuals: Installers, Users, and Programming Worksheets. The installers manual is not user-friendly on purpose as they don't want DIY people using their products. The Users manual is what is left with the customer after the installer has left the premise. That manual you will find makes sense.
To program the MASTER code you would...
*8 + installers code
enter section 007 for the master code
then enter your 4-digit master code that you want to program, default is 1234
you will hear 3 beeps then hit # to exit programming.

Thank you so much.. This makes sense now why the other manuals are so not straight forward.
Hopefully I can get this reset now.
Update: Worked like a charm. Got the master code set and I can now arm and disarm. SWEET! So glad I did not have to deal with a security company to figure this out.
THANK YOU AGAIN GRANDWIZARD!
