Hey all,
New guy here, been reading and got my system up and running. Problem is I'm limited to the 1 free zone follower. Is there anyway I can use my own SMTP server instead of sending all of this information across the internet? Your local ISP usually gives you free SMTP so why not use it?
System info:
Vista 20p v10.23, 6162RF, and Envisalink 4
I found (from some searches on here) a program called DSC Alerts that might do the trick, but it doesn't appear to be compatible with the Envisalink 4: http://automationshack.com/dscalerts.html
Summary: Want to be able to receive the standard alarm alerts plus some individual zones no matter the state of the alarm via my own SMTP server.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!! Once this is figured out I think I'm good to go!

So is my only option to purchase a subscription from Eyez-On to send me text messages??
The reason I bought an EVL4 was to avoid paying monthly fees...
This seems like a simple task, send me an email when X door opens. It's not like I'm talking about monitoring a motion sensor. The doors I want to monitor never get opened so if they get opened someone is breaking in.

Monthly fees? There are no monthly fees for envisalerts. You can have up to 30 contacts per account which can be an email address on and SMS address.
Please see the Envisalink Primer for information on how to set up contacts.

I already mentioned that I'm already receiving email notifications, but the problem is I'm limited to the 1 free zone follower.
So I have to pay $60 for a yearly fee for EnvisAlerts Plus to get multiple zone followers?
I don't understand this....

Sorry, I misunderstood. Have a look at the FAQ and it will explain why we had to limit zone followers.

Why don't you set up those zones as 24-hour zones? You will get an alarm alert if someone opens them. Depending on your panel they can even be silent alarms. I have this on my backyard shed's door.BBQ wrote:

Yeah I read that, your policy shouldn't be limiting the number of followers, your policy should limit the maximum amount of emails per hour/day/month (bandwidth/traffic).
So picture this....since traffic is your biggest concern. You give me unlimited zone followers, but limit me to a maximum amount of emails per hour/day/month. I setup 4 zone followers, which maybe gets triggered once a week, traffic is minimal here, no harm done.
Now picture this, you have me limited to 1 zone follower, so I'm going to have it monitor my motion sensor just because you are limiting me to a single zone follower, yet the motion sensor gets triggered 100 times a day. So now you have more traffic going through your servers because you limited the zone followers instead of limiting the amount of traffic itself.
Does this make sense?
