Reply to my monitoring request

Post by Bill D »

Two days ago I completed the on-line request Form for 3-year monitoring and I received the automatic "thank-you" email back, but since then I haven't heard from anyone at Eyez-On. Is there something else that I need to do, but missed, to get signed up for monitoring?

So as not to leave this post hanging...

Eyez-On Rich promptly got me on-track and rolling with monitoring. Thanks Rich.

My next mission is canceling my dial-up monitoring service and dial-up POTS line which I only used for the alarm.

I would not depend solely on ethernet monitoring. If you have a WAN connection failure, you're pretty much exposed. I'd also (and I have this) make sure to have a GSM backup. At least you will always have some type of monitoring. The GSM unit will give you full zone /incident reporting using contact ID and it works flawlessly. I've had it for years, along with my TL250 and now with the 2DS.

I am solely GSM monitored because my cable/fios/phone lines are too exposed to possible tampering.. For me, it is a waste of money to be tied into a redundant system which can be easily compromised.. The 2DS allows me the self monitoring and remote application that I need in conjunction with the GSM service..

Steve - My DSL line is fully buried with secure entry into the house and reliable, so I feel OK. However, I'm curious how your GSM backup of the 2DS works. Do both communicate to same the EnvisAlarm monitoring company? How expensive is the GSM (unit cost and monthly fee)?

I have the GS2060 and it was under $200.. There is also the GS3060 around $200.. Monthly monitoring for just cell is around $15-$20 on the low end depending who you get to monitor you and whether you wish to prepay for the year for an even cheaper discount.. I used YourAlarm.com and they set me up with Nationwide monitoring for $15 a month with the year prepaid..

No matter how secure it is - it is NOT 100% reliable nor ULC, for that reason. If it was your sole connection to the monitoring station and you were a business, your insurance co. would not insure you, because that would NOT pass UL certification/ standards. I have 2 DSL's and a cable connection, all with over 99.9% uptime, but the DSL's do go down (rarely) when the ISP undergoes server maintenance, same with my cable connection and even my $1000.00/month 1GB fiber connections at my offices. If you're serious about security and you want reliability, get a 2060 as well. I don't know if Envisalink monitoring does monitoring on wireless backup as an added service or not, but I pay around $12.00 mth for that and around the same for T-link monitoring. I'm not with that service - but with a provider I have used for 20 years. I have the panel set to dial on the T-Link and the wireless. Each time an event occurs and the T-link reports, the wireless does as well. I get a gazillion notifications on every arm/ disarm /alarm. LOL

Steve - Thanks for the info on your "Belt & Suspenders" setup. You've now got me wondering about how I might accomplish a backup connection for my 2DS through my neighbor's WiFi.
