Alarm Relay AND Eyez-On Simultaneous Accounts

Post by NonTech »

We recently switched our Central Station Monitoring from one CSM Provider to Alarm Relay. Our Honeywell VISTA 21ip Alarm System was previously monitored via the onboard IP module of the VISTA 21ip and now we are using the EnvisaLink 3. We had to delete the EnvisaLink 3 from our Eyez-On Account in order for Alarm Relay to register the module on their Connect to Go account.

The issue here is that Alarm Relay does not have a similar mobile portal like Eyez-On and any remote arming/disarming would have to be done via a web access of their Connect to Go interface. Is it possible to add-back the Envisalink 3 module to our Eyez-On Account so that we can have access via the Eyez-On Account mobile link on our iPhones/iPads?

If no, as an alternative, are there any iPhone Apps that can be used to accomplish the same thing?

Have you read the InvisaLink 3 & 4 Primer? Seems like it should be pretty straight-forward.

Connect2Go have their own mobile portal. Just ask AlarmRelay for it or issue it yourself, just like you would do on the Eyezon version of the portal. Unless they have locked you out, which is possible.

Why did you stop using the 21P IP Module? You can use both the 21P IP and Envisalink. Use the 21P to send alerts to AlarmRelay and use the EVL to remotely control the alarm.

I have a IpDatatel IPCellular communicator that communicates to AlarmRelay and also have a EVL-3 the I use to additionally control my 20P. This gives me redundancy.

AlarmRelay has an interactive application via a web logon to control. It is a lot fancier than the EVL. EVL has a 20-30 second delay before alarm reacts to commands but it is very reliable.

Here is the AlarmRelay portal.

Alarm Relay's cost to monitor via the VISTA 21IP is about $16/month (plus a $35 activation fee and a NEW $35 AlarmNet Fee), while monitoring through EVL-3 is $8.95/Month for the first year ($152 for the first year including up front cost with activation fees). Monitoring through the IP Module requires the use of AlarmNet as an intermediary, while using the EVL-3, alarm signals goes directly to the Central Station (the signal is sent-received almost instantaneously).

Also, due to the location of the Alarm Panel, I was using a Ethernet Switch located inside the panel for both the IP and EVL-3 Modules and it had no battery backup, so in the event of a power outage, the switch would be inoperable, bringing down both modules. Now with only the EVL-3 in place, we no longer need the switch.

The Portal shown is not available for the EVL-3 (Connect2Go). If I'm not mistaken, that portal is only available to "IpDatatel IPCellular communicator" users. At another location, we have a Alarm Relay ARIM device and that portal is not an option.

Got it, re: UI not available unless IPDatatel communicator is used. My Dual Path IP/CDMA is connected to the Central Station.

I don't trust IP as a sole communicator so that is why I went with Dual Path.IP/CDMA cellular.

Currently text alerts are received both from IPDAtatel and Evisalink
EVL text alerts are received in 13 seconds
IPDatatel text alerts via IP are received in 17 seconds.
If Internet is down I get alerts from AlarmRelay/IpDatatel still in 17 seconds.

That eliminates issues with loss of power, loss of internet connection and issue with cut telephone line.

The dual path communicator tries IP first if there is a good internet connection. If no internet connection it reverts to cellular until internet connection is restored. .

I am running FiOS and have a UPS on the router and a battery backup on the FiOS box but I still loose Internet with power losses.

You can see from event logs below when I lost power my alarm tried to send an event letting me know that I lost power to my garage refrigerator.

9:33:32 lost power to house, Internet was still up and it sent Fridge PWR Monitor event via IP
9:46:34 Internet went down CBAT switched to CDMA Cellular
9:48:25 Internet came back on after power was restored and switched back to IP (Internet)
10:40 Fridge PWR Monitor was restored and
10:41:14 Fridge PWR lost again
10:41:48 Fridge PWR Monitor was restored again.

You could always use a 12 volt powered Ethernet switch and power it directly off the the alarm 12 volt panel aux power. One such device is a Netgear ProSAFE 5-Port Gigabit Switch GS105v5

Yes, I'm aware of the possibility of using a 12-volt switch. We brought the 5-volt switch locally (very small footprint) during the installation of the system and should have return it and get a 12-volt unit. There was non available at the local store, so we just live with it for the past 2 years. At any rate, we are using the Envisalink 3 only and there is no need for a switch at the panel location. We will still have the onboard Vista 21iP Module in case the Envisalink 3 fails for some reason. I hate going through AlarmNet and paying them a fee (pass-on to us by Alarm Relay) just to relay the signal to Alarm Relay, plus that approach introduces another step in the communication pathway) at a higher cost.

Thanks for your feedback @flyct!
