2DS replacement of TL-150

Post by Dnnunn »

Apologies for the newbie nature of the post, but I currently have TL-150 installed with a Powerseries DSC832 system which is being monitored by a service. I have an AT&T U-verse Internet connection with a HGV3801 router/modem. Since installing the TL-150, I have been losing communication with the monitoring station multiple times during the day exactly on the hour and through some googling have come to the conclusion that it is a NTP server issue, where the TL-150 goes offline when it doesn't receive a time sync signal. It resets, often on its own after one hour or instantly when I reset module through the web interface menu. I have fixed the IP address so it is not a DHCP lease issue and I know the rest of the Internet is not going down by looking at my 2Wire gateway log.

The question is whether the 2DS is likely to have the same issue, as it appears to be the same basic setup as the Tl-150 from the diagram? Also, how straightforward will it be to essentially cut and paste the port info (uses 3061) and monitor server address as I would like to continue using my alarm monitor service, as well as having th advantage of the Eyez-On account/remote monitoring option.

I haven't yet tried the switch-out but would appreciate any insight or warnings that you can provide.

Thanks!

While the TL-150 and the Envisalink IP100D shared a common hardware lineage, they were very different beasts. Now the Envisalink 2DS is even more different from that.

I can't comment on any issues with the TL-150, but I can tell you the '2DS doesn't have any issues with local supervision and definitely doesn't use NTP for time syncronisation.

As for monitoring, right now all we offer is our EnvisAlarms service for professional IP monitoring. EnvisAlarms users have to use our third-party monitoring company for technical reasons. Even though IP monitoring is over 10 years old, it is still poorly supported and when it is, it is at a cost many times higher than telephone monitoring. Our monitoring partner was the only company we could find that could technically handle the IP alarms, and provide monitoring at a reasonable price.

Wow I am shocked. Have the exact same issue as Original poster. I am finding out that the DSC TL-150 is complete pile of garbage. I am interested in purchasing EnvisaLink 3. I currently have DSC PowerSeries Control Panel PC1832 with PK5501 Keypad. The module I have is DSC T-Link Residential IP Alarm Communicator TL150. It is setup with an IP to report/monitor to local station. My questions is can the EnvisaLink 3 replace my TL-150? If so can it be professional monitored ? If yes does it have to professionally monitored by eyez-on or can it be done by any monitoring company that does IP based monitoring

Dnnunn what was your solution ?
