Testing the Device

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the world of Envisalink and it's something I've been looking for for quite a while, so I am excited to try it out! I just ordered the Envisalink 4.

Currently I pay for a monitoring service which uses a cellular device to connect to the monitoring station. I want to test the Envisalink before cancelling my monitoring service. I have a Power632 PC1555MX. Does anyone know what I should and shouldn't disconnect in order to get this Envisalink to connect properly while also not causing any permanent issues with my monitoring service? Do I simply unplug the cell connection and then plug in the Envisalink?

Obviously, if I can get the Envisalink to work, I'll be cancelling my monitoring service.

Thanks for any help or insight!

On DSC systems you don't have to do anything, just hook up the 4 wires. If you later want to remove your GSM communicator you should contact our tech support for specific instructions.

Thanks so much for getting back to me.

If I decide to use the EnvisaLink monitoring (and I probably will), will I need to deactivate the GSM communicator or is it something that can stay indefinitely plugged into the board? Simply put, is there a reason to even unplug it?

Depending on what it is it may generate a trouble on your system if the service is terminated. You can submit a tech support request at that time and let the know the make and model for more info.

Does anyone know how much data is used when the alarm is armed/disarmed a few times a day? I'm weighing my options for using an isolated 4G router for the alarm (Envisalink) and wanted to gauge how much data might be necessary. Does the Envisalink use much data when the device is technically idle?

The Envisalink uses about 50MB per month on upload and about 15MB on download. This is regardless of the amount of events you have per day.

Thanks GrandWizard! You've been most helpful. So far very pleased with my EnvisaLink and looking forward to saving money and having an old alarm that's now part of the 21st century!
