EVL4 not reporting zone status correctly

Post by benrjunk »

Hi,

I'm a new EVL4 owner with a Vista 20p panel.

It seems like the EVL4 isn't reporting zone status over the tpi link correctly and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

If a second zone is faulted within around 30 seconds of another closing, the EVL reports both zones are open.

For example, if I open my front door, it says front door zone open. Door closed then reports that zone as closed. I open my back door next, and it reports back door and front door open, even though the front door is closed. When the back door is closed, it then reports both zones as closed. If I reopen the back door it only reports the back door as open (front door stays reported as closed, as it should). Next, if I move to another zone, for example trip a motion sensor, it reports the motion sensor and back door are open. When there's no movement, everything returns to closed. When the motion sensor is tripped again, EVL only reports motion sensor as open.

Here's the tcp output I'm getting when only zone 6 is tripped

%02,0300000000000000$[C][L]%01,30000000000000000000000000000000$[C][L]%00,01,0008,06,00,FAULT 06 GARAGE ENTRY $[C][L]

but the output %01,30000000000000000000000000000000$[C][L]
is saying both zones 5 & 6 are open.

Can anyone help me with this problem? Is it a configuration issue in the 20p?

Thanks.

Section 3.5 of the Ademco TPI docs explains what you are seeing. There is a reporting lag on Honeywell panels.

I was wondering if that was the problem but if the panel reports ready then shouldn't the EVL know all zones are closed?

That's a good point but the issue there was that the Envisalink has no way of knowing about the existence of other partitions so just because partition 1 is ready doesn't mean that a zone in another partition isn't open. The same problem arises with bypassed zones in the same partition.

Thanks for this response.

I don't have any bypassed zones and my system has a single partition.

Is there any way I can modify the way the EVL4 is reporting status so that when the system is reported as ready the EVL assumes all zones are closed?

I wonder if the heuristics for zone opening/closing can be updated. The EVL should know that %2,0100000000000000$ means all zones on the system are closed, and update their statuses accordingly.

If the EVL reports %2,0200000000000000$, or %2,0101000000000000$ (for example) then the current heuristics could be applied because there are bypassed zones, or zones in other partitions.

Why would the EVL apply the current algorithm when it knows the only partition is ready without bypassed zones (%2,0100000000000000$)? This results in creating inaccurate information and difficulty in using.
