ANNOUNCE: Resumption of Zone Follower Service

Post by GrandWizard »

With the latest release of firmware (1.8.107) we're finally in a position to resume the Zone Follower alerting service in a manner similar to how it used to work, and for most, in a better way.

You can now select any combination of Zones to follow from your Eyezon Portal account. We continue to ask that you only follow the zones that are truly important and not enable a motion detector in a daily occupied premise, for example.

The alerting of Zone Followers is bandwidth limited to ensure the continued operation of the service. Zone Followers events are entered into a 16 deep queue as they happen, and the head event in the queue is transmitted every 30 seconds. If a zone follower event comes in while there are already 16 previous events in the queue, it will be lost.

Due to the improved bandwidth management we have relaxed the 10 minute zone closing hold-off to 5 minutes. That is, a zone that is opened and then closed immediately, will not report the closure until 5 minutes have expired. Any openings and closings during this period will reset the timer and not be reported.

We believe this is the best compromise between utility and protecting the service for all.

Remember, this ONLY applies to Zone Follower alerts, all other alerts are transmitted as soon as they happen.

Thank-you for your patience and enjoy your Envisalink!

Hi, this is great. I'm now back to seeing what is going on without actually being there. I just tested and it works beautifully. Thank you.

If anyone is looking for additional zone follower bandwidth (and is running a networked computer in their home) you can try DSCAlerts. It will send all selected zone followers alerts in real time to an SMTP server of your choice.

I'm very glad things are re-enabled and that is a very good compromise. The reduction of 10 minutes to 5 minutes on the interval timer is a nice added bonus too.

The only thing that I ask is that if you need to disable some service like this again in the future, please send out a message to all customers and especially distributors so they are at least aware of what is going on and don't have to find out by heading to the support forums because something isn't working right any more (if they even know they exist).
