Can i plug EVL4 into a POE Hub

Post by tmruff »

Can i plug EVL4 into a POE (Power over ethernet) Hub? Will it damage the module or the alarm board?

Thanks

If the hub is a legitmate PoE device and follows the discovery protocol, then yes, you can put the Envisalink on a PoE hub.

So the question is,

A) Is POE supported as a power delivery method, or
b) will plugging the Envisalink device into a POE port not hurt the Envisalink?

I'm in a situation where I've exceeded the 700mA limit on my system, when the Envisalink is attached. I need an alternate method of powering the device. I wasn't clear on the answer if POE was just "not harmful" or "supported for power delivery."

Thank you.

No, the Envisalink is not a PoE device so you cannot power it that way.

Both DSC and Honeywell have external power supplies for your situation. We strongly recommend that you keep the Enivisalink on the panel power and move the other device(s) (e.g. keypads, zone expanders) to the external supply.
