Recommend DSC Replacement for Vista 20P

If I wanted to replace my Vista 20P, with a DSC panel, what panel would you guys recommend? Also, would all of my existing door sensors, motion sensors, keypads work with the DSC, or does that all need replaced? I don't have a very complicated setup. I have two 6160 keypads, normal door contacts, and a motion sensor (not sure the model) - all hardwired.

I was looking at the PC1864 but not sure if this is a good one or not. If I do have to replace all the keypads and stuff, could someone point me to a good deal on a kit? I just purchased an Envisalink 3, and I want to do TPI, which I'm figuring out they don't support on the Vista 20P.

Thanks!

From what I have read the DSC 1864 is a good unit and have been reviewed fine. For your small setup you could def just get a DSC 1832 and even a 1616 if you wanted to save money. Home Security Store usually is a good place to order since they provide tech support and prices are fine.

If you have all hardwired than your existing contacts should be fine. You will have to get new keypads tho. But if your doing all this only for the TPI I am pretty sure that I read on here that EyezOn is coming out soon with the Vista TPI. If you already have everything in tact I would wait.

No problem. For what its worth, I have been testing out a Vista20p with the Envisalink3 and I have found some minor functionality issues that sort of bother me and may warrant me purchasing a DSC if I cant resolve. Check my post below:

I have a Vista20p and when i access the port 4025 events are told in plain english and I can send commands to the system with "200"
so "20012343" arms my system in stay just as if i am at the keypad, assuming 1234 is your user code. Hope this helps... Here is a copy of what I am seeing:

**UPDATE

Apparently there is no need to use the 200 you can type just as if your at the keypad aka just put in 12343 and it works.

smyers119,

Can you go into a little more detail as to how you are sending commands to the system?

Is this via the custom command via the Eyez-on web portal? And where did you find that "3" arms the system? Sorry for all the newb questions... still trying to figure out TPI to this thing.

My end goal with this thing is to be able to send commands to the security system from EventGhost (kind of like what they are doing with the quick api), but I'd also like to be able to monitor the security system for events using EventGhost as well.

This is for Vista20p panels only not DSC panels**

Follow the same steps you would follow to connect that are in the TPI guide. for me i used Netcat if you use windows you can use telnet. When it prompts you to login type in your password to the local web portal. Once you are logged in you get a status update from the system every couple seconds which is going to be the same exact message that is on your keypad. You can from there type in your code and 3 which arms in stay mode, the if your not sure why i type 3 look at your keypad and above the number 3 is "stay".The status message acts just like the display on the keypad. so you could very easily program a system through this way

Steve,

Thanks for the info, that was a big help!

So, sounds like you are just interacting with it in more of a "raw" format, as opposed to using an official TPI (where they are calculating checksums and all that?). I read through the guide, and then I looked at what you posted - and I guess with your method, it's just basically emulating entries through a virtual keypad of sorts - as opposed to using TPI commands/responses. I think there is enough here to get started, but yes, I hope there is official TPI soon! I think that will be much more robust.

Thanks I tried this and got no where with telnet or putty or anything like that. Tried different options and when I would counnect to port 4025 it would say login and as soon as I typed the second character of the password or really anything it would just disconnect the session. Found a netcat for windows and got right in like you said.. Very odd.. But this is awesome as I have been waiting for a way to tap into the Ademco one as have been waiting on its TPI. Thanks!
