thermostat capabilities

Post by mm123 »

I am interested in wiring a thermostat through my security system in order to remotely access it. I see dsc used to make an HS-EMS400 that I assume would work. Did they just stop manufacturing the thermostat and if so is there a replacement?
Also would there be an aftermarket equivalent.

Thanks so much for your time.

In order to use the HVAC capabilities on the IP100D you need to have both an ESCORT 5580TC installed along with an EMS-100 (EMS-300 and EMS-400 work but only have 2 occupancy modes and there has been reports of issues with the current firmware).

Indeed, the company that DSC used to buy their thermostat's from no longer supplies them and DSC no longer ships any. Your best bet is to grab one off e-bay (EMS-100) if you can.

Envisacor, the maker of the IP100D, is working on another thermostat solution as there is great demand for this feature.

Can you use multiple thermostats with the security system and control them seperately?

Technically, yes, you can have up to four (4) thermostats on a system. I am checking with the firmware people to see if this is fully implemented in the latest release.

I'm crossing my fingers that they might accommodate the Honeywell VisionPro IAQ thermostat system. I recently installed one to control my system, and it would be a natural for the IP100D, I think. I'd really love to be able to monitor and control it remotely.

I'll pass it along. If it is RS-485 then it can be supported. If you had the protocol sitting around, that would be helpful too.

Unfortunately, I can't find any reference to RS-485 in the Product Data file on it, so things don't sound too promising. Thanks for the feedback, though.

Just curious if you are any closer to developing a thermostat that will work with your system.
Thanks,

Yes and no. Yes we are working on supporting the GE series of communicating thermostats but no, it will not be available on the IP100D. It unfortunately requires a hardware change. I will keep the forum posted and Envisacor is still interested in other thermostats and is taking suggestions.
